4 cold-weather skincare hacks

When the blistering cold comes in, our skin loves to break out. Between the drop in humidity, dry processed air from heaters and windburn, it’s no wonder skin can often lack in moisture and max out on acne. While you can’t eliminate the elements, you can certainly protect yourself from them with these four skincare hacks.

amp up the hydration

Our outer layer of skin is the most susceptible to dryness, so it’s important to hydrate from the inside out. Drinking water and using products rich in moisturizing ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid are essential. Evenprime Barrier Serum is my favorite product designed to protect your skin’s barrier and provide deep, lasting hydration.

simplify your routine

While I’m a fan of completing every step in my skincare routine, sometimes you need to go back to basics in order to calm your skin down. Stick to the products that bring you the most moisture and reduce your use of exfoliators (chemical and physical) and actives like retinol. Taking a break from skin-clogging makeup when you can will also help keep acne at bay.

buy a humidifier

With all the time we are spending time inside, consider purchasing a humidifier (like this one from Canopy) to replace moisture that's missing in the air because our heaters are running 24/7.

use pH-balancing products

When it comes to cleansers and face masks, opt for the products that will balance your skin’s pH levels. Face washes with pH-balancing ingredients (my favorite is Peach & Lily Power Calm Hydrating Cleanser) will gently clean away debris without stripping your skin’s barrier.
