take action: gender equality

Gender inequality is an issue that has manifested in a myriad of ways throughout history, with women fighting for everything from their right to vote to autonomous control over their bodies. As a man, gender equality isn’t something I want to champion just for the amazing women in my own life, but something I want to champion because I believe every person is worthy of having equal rights. Women deserve not only recognition for what they have done and continue to do, but tangible support to shatter glass ceilings that have been created by men.

end violence against women

According to UN Women, up to 70% of women around the world will be beaten, raped and abused in their lifetime. Discouragingly, less than 40 per cent of the women who experience violence seek help of any sort. We need to provide more safe spaces for women and rephrend the men that cause harm to women. Consider donating to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women to support in systematically addressing this issue.

close the gender pay gap

According to a whitepaper from Payscale, women in the U.S. made only $0.81 for every dollar a man made in 2020. This is simply unacceptable. In order to effectively close the gender pay gap, we need to hold companies large and small accountable for how they compensate their employees and empower women in the workforce with the tools and opportunities to negotiate for equal pay. You can learn more about achieving pay equity by attending Create & Cultivate’s Equal Pay Day digital summit on March, 24th.

donate to YWCA’s covid-19 emergency relief and community resiliency fund

Women have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through the increase in domestic violence, need for affordable childcare and lack of sustainable housing solutions. Donating to YWCA’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief and Community Resiliency Fund directly supports women, allowing the non-profit organization to expand their services to meet the growing needs caused by the pandemic.

fight for intersectionality

Intersectional feminism is defined as “a prism for seeing the way in which various forms of inequality often operate together and exacerbate each other” by the term’s creator, Kimberlé Crenshaw. The issue of gender equality affects all women and often overlaps with other issues like racism, transphobia and xenophobia. Truly fighting for gender equality means understanding the existence of every woman is worth fighting for, no matter their assigned gender at birth, race, class, sexual orientation, or immigration status.
