3 easy ways to improve digestive health

The connection between your gut and your brain is kind of insane. If you have any digestive issues, they can either be the cause or the effect of anxiety, depression and stress. As more research comes out about this gut-brain connection, the value of maintaining a healthy gut becomes even greater. Taking care of your gut doesn’t require a complete lifestyle change (although understanding and eliminating what causes you digestive distress is important), it can be as simple as making a few additions to your existing diet. These are my favorite products that have helped improve my digestive health recently, especially after enduring several rounds of antibiotics (which destroy your gut microbiome in the process of removing bad bacteria) this year.

supplements

If you’re someone who remembers to take their vitamins every day (honestly a superpower), a pre/probiotic supplement might fit into your routine quite nicely. I take Rae Pre + Probiotic in the morning with a glass of water before any of my other vitamins. What I love about Rae is that in addition to only using vegan, non-GMO ingredients, the company provides 5% of its revenue to Girls Inc., a non-profit focused on nourishing the next generation of girls. If supplements aren’t your thing (totally get it), consider a pre/probiotic gummy like Olly Extra Strength Probiotic Gummies.

prebiotic soda

Probably the most delicious way to get your prebiotics is through sodas like Poppi or OLIPOP. These sodas are low in sugar (most OLIPOP flavors are 2g) and high in fiber, providing digestive benefits with delicious, nostalgic flavors. My favorites from OLIPOP are the Cream Soda, Orange Squeeze, and Cherry Cola flavors.

yogurt

You might be laughing at this recommendation, but honestly yogurt is a very underrated food! Filled with calcium and naturally-occurring probiotics, yogurt really is a digestive MVP. I love eating greek yogurt from FAGE and topping it off with granola (added fiber!) and a touch of honey.
